American Spirit Racing currently has full-season or single-event driver opportunities available in the IMSA Prototype Lites 2 Championship, open to drivers who will become 16 years of age by January 1, 2011 and older. A minimum of an SCCA National license is required. An FIA license is NOT required. This is the ideal venue for a driver coming out of Formula BMW, club racing or other series looking to advance his or her career in motorsports.
American Spirit Racing's IMSA Lites program is designed to provide drivers, who wish to move up the ranks to the American Le Mans prototype class, a cost-effective program to obtain the experience of competing in a multi-class atmosphere in cars of similar design. Our program also enables drivers who do not aspire to make racing their profession, the opportunity to participate in prototype racing in a professional yet more friendly and less costly environment. You will be competing in front of thousands of spectators at such premier events as Road America, Petit Le Mans and more.
The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship features multi-class racing. It presents a dimension of competition as drivers must be aware of classes with distinctly different speeds as they navigate the race tracks. This is the same challenge American Le Mans Series drivers face.
The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship was developed to support the American Le Mans series, the premier prototype and GT endurance racing series in the world, and is the proving ground for drivers looking to move up the ladder to the American Le Mans Series. The series features global race car constructors Elan Motorsport Technologies, West Race Cars, and Van Diemen Motorsports, IMSA Lites offers racers from around the world the opportunity to compete at historic racing venues like Lime Rock Park, Road America, Mosport and Road Atlanta, just to name a few.
PROTOTYPE LITES 2 CLASS
Featuring West Race Cars WX10 and WR1000 chassis, this smaller and lighter weight prototype features a state of the art semi-monocoque frame which shelters the driver in a 1" thick monocoque tub for driver safety and stability. A complete aerodynamic package is part of this class, including full tunnel floors, front diffuser, rear wing and dive planes. Shifting is controlled by an F1 inspired no-lift paddle shift system. West cars are powered by engines that rev to over 12,000 rpm and develop up to 180 hp.
IMSA has given the Lites2 class several concessions to improve performance that will shorten the gap in speeds between the Lites1 & 2 classes. This brings the Lites2 class more in par with the Lites1 class and enables our drivers to race head to head in the show.
An IMSA Lites video clip is scheduled to be part of American Le Mans television broadcasts in 2010, providing excellent exposure for winning drivers and their sponsors in the series. This is a tremendous addition to the value of participating in this Championship.
