March 3, 2010 - The Formula Atlantic Championship announced today that it would cease operations for the 2010 season. "This is a sad blow for all the teams and drivers who have invested their time and resources in the Atlantic Championship. It's a great Series with great cars, extremely talented drivers and a rich history," commented American Spirit's Jon Lewis. "We looked strongly at entering the Atlantic Championship back in 2007, but we chose to go the way of Indy Lights instead. The writing was already on the wall in regards to the demise of the ChampCar Series and we felt that it would only be a matter of time before the Atlantic Championship imploded as well, especially in today's economy. My compliments to Ben Johnston for all his hard work trying to keep it alive. I really feel bad for all the drivers who have set their sights on Atlantics for this season. Especially now at the eleveth hour." For drivers looking for a ride in another Series, American Spirit can assist you in getting you up to speed, quickly. January 28, 2010 - CAPE CORAL, FL - American Spirit Boss Jon Lewis announced today that the team will work inconjunction with WEST Racecars to field its Lites2 operation in 2010. "Eric (Vassian) and I talked in length about the Series and the Lites2 division specifically," commented Lewis. "I am very proud to announce our two operations working together to provide the strongest platform for the advancement of our drivers. WEST Racecars has all the inside knowledge and experience with these cars and we will operate our program hand-in-hand with them. American Spirit will bring our expertise to the operation with our own at-track personnel, who have years of experience in prototype racing with IMSA. I believe the Lites2 class provides the most value-packed opportunity for drivers who are either as young as 16 and looking to move up the ladder to ALMS prototypes or drivers of greater age who want to experience the thrill of competing at the professional level. January 24, 2010 - SEBRING, FL - American Spirit's Jon Lewis took a drive over to Sebring this weekend to check out testing for the IMSA Prototype Lites and Patron GT3 Challenge. "I was impressed by the turnout. There were several teams and drivers in the Lites Championship and it looks to be a very exciting and competitive season. I met with Eric Vassian (owner of WEST Racecars) for quite sometime and I'll have some really exciting developments and announcements in our Lites2 program to share with you very soon. The West prototype is a really great car, light, powerful, very responsive and easy to set up and maintain. It's clear that it's going to be the driver that's going to determine the Lites2 Championship this season. I haven't been this excitied about an upcoming season in a long time. I'm really looking forward to our Lites program this year."

Its really great to see that even in this tough economy, sports car racing is still going strong. But then again, IMSA's always seem to get it right!
